9/12/18

This opportunity is for everyone interested in volunteering who WANTS to be there. If an individual does not want to volunteer, then their volunteering opportunity will be removed. (They will have a badge that will need to be returned)

Closer to the event, (probably a few days prior) there will be an orientation for volunteers at the same location the faire will be, to familiarize volunteers with where things will be and briefly going over a few rules and expectations. Please have any volunteers try to be there. Date, Time, and address will be sent at that time.

The day of the faire, volunteers will check-in at my booth and get a volunteer badge to wear and if they are needed right away, will be sent to an area to help. Schedules, times, and volunteers needed are still to be finalized. At the end of the time they will be there, they will need to check-out and return the badge and at that time will receive any signed form they need.

For more information, to sign up or to ask questions, contact Taylor Barrett, at the volunteer email: rlecfvolunteers@gmail.com

New Parent Orientation NOTES (see link for power point slides)

8/14/2018

6pm Arutas

  • Introductions

Principal Mr. Ed Delgado, 3rd year at CCAA

VP Mr. Brian Emerson

VP Mr. Adrian Booth (unable to attend)

Ms. Kris Ward - Attendance at Walerga, grades 7-12

Mrs. Tina Hughes-Corben - 7th grade teacher, founding CCAA teacher

Ms. Shelly Shaw - elementary office manager

Ms. Wendy Hatt - secondary office manager (unable to attend)

Ms. Patty Kellenbarger - Walerga office, parent and student hour coordinator of documentation

  • School Community Norms (lavender sheet handout) reviewed - will be translated and posted/sent to our ESL families

    • Respect during Performances - being role models for our children who will be attending public performances, find an administrator or staff to deal with problematic situations

    • Honoring and respecting each other - be aware that others’ ears are always open, talking to students as if their parent is right there and vice versa, being constructive

    • Encouraging positive interactions - smiles, dwelling on positive, pride in our school/staff/community, open minded to solutions, including all

    • Trust our admin to resolve issues

    • Demonstrate Social Media Etiquette - building our school up instead of tearing us down, avoiding communicating about others, privacy of others

    • Support our Charter - initialed agreements on application

  • Dependent Charter of TRUSD - we get same resources as other TRUSD schools which is different than an independent charter which to find ALL of the resources (custodial, clerical, etc.) on our own, open enrollment, no attendance boundaries, a school of choice, arts integration emphasis, project based curriculum - be prepared for deadlines, inquiry based, technology advanced program

  • Arts Integration defined, connected to Kennedy Center Arts in DC- art as curriculum (teaching the art form - elective classes), arts enhanced learning (using art as an extension to the main program - field trips), arts-integration (blending a subject WITH an art form). CCAA focuses on all these arts experiences.

  • Exploratory Choices - see slide, listed online and in planner. One planner given to each student; you can purchase your own copy from PTO. In addition after school opportunities that are audition based. Exploratory is open to all students based on balancing classes according to forms.

  • Field Study Day program - if reports are not turned in, student counted as unexcused absence. 5 days to submit!! Importance of Advance Preparation form to help plan for day.

  • Getting connected - see slides. We have one school Facebook page, School Loop nightly email of valuable information, reminds (check with teachers for updated ways to connect)

  • CCAA is known for our events, family feel → without parent involvement, CCAA will lose what makes us special. If these are the things that you appreciate, we need families to participate. Overall philosophy - does it benefit the school as a whole, not just my student. 30 hours per family, can be counted at either campus → we are one school. If volunteering 10 hours or more with students in classroom, need volunteer badge → process starts in office with paperwork to complete.

  • Student community service hours → philosophy = benefits the community at large NOT just family. Secondary shifted focus to college and career readiness. Requirement for promotion and graduation, trying to teach good citizenship.

  • Walked participants through documenting hours (claiming 2 hours for tonight!) → see handout for directions

  • Safety during pick up and drop off - TRPD will issue tickets for double parking, red zone violations, etc. PBIS → Positive Behavior and interventions supports. Our dragons SOAR. We use Catapult EMS - a safety alert program during drills and emergencies to keep our staff connected/aware and track students in the event of an emergency. Visitors MUST sign in and out of office for safety!

  • Attendance importance. Chronic Absenteeism (defined as missing 10% of year) increased last year. When you miss school = you miss out; miss a lot = fall behind, especially HS with earning credits (220 needed to graduate!) Clear absences within 5 days with Shelly or Kris before it turns into an unexcused absence by email/phone call/note. We cannot change that. Letters are generated automatically (3 unexcused starts the process).

  • Led attendees through submitting parent involvement hours and registering for school loop
